A refit project that incorporates the hospitality areas of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park’s most recognisable venue.
Portview was integral to the transformation of the UK’s only venue capable of hosting both world class football and athletics events – the London Stadium in Stratford, London.
The evolution of the former venue of the London 2012 Olympic Games commenced soon after the global sporting event ended and is now the new home of West Ham United FC and the National Competition Centre.
Strategic design firm 20.20 Ltd created a scheme for the 8,547m2 space over the entire four floors of the West Hospitality Stand. Boasting nine hospitality lounges and 16 VIP boxes, each portray individual themes which illustrate the story of the football club, its Olympic athletic legacy and place in local history.
From The Boleyn lounge, to The Forge, The Londoner Claret, the Londoner Blue and the Great Briton, local colour is celebrated alongside others like the eponymously named Arnold Hills, in memory of West Ham founder, and the legendary Bobby Moore.
This high-profile project, managed by Mace, required a large team from Portview to integrate quickly and effectively with other teams already working on site, some for a number of years, under the auspices of main contractor Balfour Beatty.
A number of key challenges arose from working on a building of this nature, transforming a temporary structure, built for the Olympic athletics events, to a multi-use arena with a sustainable future.
Among those considerations was its environmental impact in the heart of this regenerated area of East London.
Achieving its aims, the collective working team delivered the project to BREEAM+ standards, bringing with it a cost-effective solution to sustainable development.
Project director, Portview’s John McMahon said: “Portview undertook this complex project to deliver multiple spaces with unique designs and a high number of stakeholders.
“From a standing start we were delighted to get all design development, material sign offs, bespoke manufacturing and project delivered on time and to a high quality finish.”

“Having worked with Portview extensively before, we knew the workmanship and attention to detail would deliver a truly world-class series of spaces.
“We are delighted with the result. Evidence of Portview's quality to deliver is clear the second you walk into any one of the nine spaces; each space has perfectly captured the unique characteristic and experience we worked so hard together to achieve. With every space sold out before the football season began, it would seem fans agree too – and that is the only compliment any of us look for!”
