Portview is Good As Gold
Luxury retail fit-out specialist Portview Fit-Out has recently completed work on a new gallery for renowned art dealer Philip Mould. Known for his appearances on the Antiques Roadshow and his series with Fiona Bruce, Fake or Fortune, Philip Mould has moved his gallery to London’s historic Pall Mall.
The gallery has a large selection of fine paintings for sale, from Tudor and Jacobean panel pictures to eighteenth century landscapes, works by Old Masters such as Titian and Van Dyck and antique portrait miniatures, all of which need to be shown to their best advantage.
The 557sq m space over three floors was designed by Edward Bulmer, described as “one of the UK’s leading architectural historians, a designer with a flair for colour and a commitment to sustainability in everyday living”. The £850,000 project was managed over a 12-week time-scale by Leckenby Associates.
Simon Campbell, Managing Director, Portview Fit-Out commented:
“Much of our work is executing the vision of talented designers, but with this project we’ve got close to some superb art from another perspective. Working closely with Edward Bulmer and with Philip’s team opened us up to the world of art, colour and pigments. The key to the project was blending modern and traditional materials, methods and craftsmanship to create the contemporary but traditional space.
“With no existing access between floors, our focus was to ensure the best possible location for a new stairwell to be cut through the building. The end result is a great success with its beautiful travertine stone wall cascading from ground floor ceiling to the basement floor, drawing the eye through the space.
“With such an outstanding gallery project completed, we expect that we will soon deliver other gallery fit-outs as it is clear that our way of working has been successful in this sector.”
Philip Mould said:
“Portview had quite a complex specification to do with lighting, spaces, flooring and ceilings. I knew exactly what I wanted and I’m delighted to say I got it. Portview listened, answered and considered things. They supplied what they said they could do, on time. I found them to be can-do, conscientious and problem-solving – what more do you want? I’m really happy.”
