Key Points of Interest

Stripped

Stripped

Fitting out a new restaurant, bar and kiosks, bakery and coffee shop, the area had first to be stripped of all the previous internal furnishings and structure.

Areas

Areas

The works programme featured a large steel frame built to enclose the Boulevard Bar with accompanying seating, with a staircase being erected up through the frame to access the Mezzanine Diner Restaurant.

Structure

Structure

The frame and accompanying curtain structure linked both areas, while the boulevard, also featuring a café, coffee shop and bakery, was created adjacent to a kiosk.

Linking Together

Linking Together

The kiosk, incorporating a take-away facility, was developed using a similar metal frame and was constructed to link the whole scheme together in a what was a major project.

Unique

Unique

The steel frame, devised in the first ever contract with ExCel, constituted quite a unique feature for the Portview team involved. The project featured the use of a number of different claddings systems for the internal finishes – including a bespoke, folded perforated, powder-coated metal sheet specially manufactured for the job – installed as a decorative touch.

Cladding

Man-made sheeting with a slate finish and Marley Eternite cladding also provided an eye-catching design element within the bakery.

Further Design

Further Design

A passenger lift and two dumbwaiters, one servicing the restaurant and the other the bakery, were installed, while underfoot, stone and tiles were used to surface the floor area. The bar interiors were given a polished stainless-steel finish while stone counters added texture and a further design element.

“We have enjoyed a long-standing relationship with Portview for a number of years within the hospitality industry and one of the main factors about them is their great understanding and knowledge of our marketplace. They understand the challenges of the industry and the standards that are demanded of them, from the regular to the high-end. They show a particular attention to detail and are uniquely good in terms of craftsmanship and the quality of their people.”
