In this role you will be responsible for and manage all site activities on high end fit out projects. This should be done with a can do attitude. You will work autonomously using your fit out/construction knowledge to problem solve and make decisions on a daily basis. You will be the main on site contact for the Contracts Manager, clients, sub-contractors and other trades. You will also co-ordinate all aspects of the works so that the fit out project is completed safely in line with the clients’ requirements, within budget, on time and finished to an exceptionally high standard.

Role

Ensure safety to public, site visitors and staff on site at all times, ensuring that preventative measures are taken, including personal protection, following safety instructions and following all aspects of the health and safety proposal for the site
Maintain security of completed works, perimeter barriers, stored materials and plant, at all times during the project
Supervise and manage all site based operatives, overseeing all aspects of their work, to include; carrying out safety inductions; tool box talks; controlling quality of work; ensuring method statement and order fulfilment; cleanliness & tidiness; the use of plant and tools, waste reduction; upkeep of plant and facilities; use of personal protection equipment/wear
Ensure that all works carried out are undertaken within current codes of practice for brick work, plastering, carpentry etc. and that works are to the required standard
Protect all finishes on the project
Surveying site and checking all setting out dimensions; flagging up any issues.
Setting out of all partitions, ceilings, doors, etc. and cross-referencing to ensure all fixtures, counters, fittings will fit as required with appropriate grounds etc.
Understanding and interpreting all drawings and specifications fully and working to these drawings, and keeping drawings in good condition at all times.
Managing all drawings and continually updating the superseded drawings.To manage building contracts on-site, liaising with the Contracts Manager, client, sub-contractors and other trades, co-ordinating all aspects of the works so that the building project is completed in line with the requirements, within budget and on time.
Have a commercial understanding of the project, advising and implementing cost savings at all times, and represent the company in a professional and proactive manner in all dealings with those associated with, and affected by, the building project.
Identifying the longer lead-in items and ordering these in time so as not to affect the program
Minimising the number of calls to the buying department by planning work ahead and group ordering things.
Minimising waste
Managing all subcontractors productivity and ensure output is high and time keeping is good. Particularly relevant when labour is being paid on time.
Ensure that the project is delivered on time as snag free as possible by snagging all subcontract and own work packages at each stage of completion.
Setting out and coordination of all services above ceilings to avoid clashes.
Maintain and track deliveries, ensure that stock and materials are deployed properly, off load/check all deliveries to relevant storage facilities, and manage stock issue, adhering at all times to operational needs and with due regard for health, safety and security, returning all delivery notes to head office weekly.
Check that all materials used, including those used by sub-contractors, are compliant with technical and quality specifications.
Develop good working relationships with clients and their representatives in line with Portview’s values- portraying a can do attitude to help make the client’s job easier.
Regular meetings with clients and their representatives to give updates on progress on site
Handle all issues from the client and provide appropriate solutions and alternatives within the time limits and follow up to ensure resolution
Maintain transparent communication. Appropriately communicate organization information through department meetings, one-on-one meetings, and appropriate email, IM, and regular interpersonal communication

To attend and chair team briefings to help keep all involved in the project i.e. contracts manager, the client, colleagues, contractors and sub-contractors continually abreast of all issues impacting upon progress on site
Working well with all other company personnel such as the quantity surveyor, buying department, CAD department, accounts department, contracts administration, to ensure the most effective and efficient outcomes for the company.
Pro-actively suggesting improvements to company procedures and working practices in relation to quality, health and safety, or efficiency
To share professional knowledge with colleagues and to keep professional knowledge up to date by reading industry magazines attending development workshops, skills updates etc.
To coach, mentor, and develop team members, including overseeing new employee’s familiarisation
Empower employees to take responsibility for their jobs and goals. To delegate responsibility and expect accountability and regular feedback.
If allocated an apprentice, to take responsibility for their training and development and to ensure they are continuously learning new skills

Knowledge Required
To have a knowledge and understanding of all the trades required on site, the codes of practice relating to them and the requirements for them, to be able to quality control works ensuring that they are completed to the required standards
To have a good understanding of H&S and to be able to apply all H&S requirements.
To have a commercial approach to site management, to be able to identify cost savings and understands budget issues.
Knowledge and understanding of the CDM regulations

Who?

  • Substantial experience of the full life cycle of a number of high end fit out projects, involving the supervision of the project and the staff working on it
  • CSCS card (Management level)
  • Knowledge of CDM regulations
  • Experience in the co-ordination and installation of services
  • Analytical skills to be able to understand and interpret complex technical specifications, drawings and documents and formulate plans from them
  • Written communication to be able to write reports and complete paperwork/administration
  • Numeracy skills, to enable scaling of drawings, checking measurements/angles and doing calculations
  • Verbal communication skills to enable effective communication all levels, and able to develop good relationships with clients/client representatives.
  • Basic IT Skills to enable flow of information between those involved in the project, particularly Microsoft Outlook
  • To be good at planning ahead as far as possible as the project progresses, checking back to plans/programmes regularly
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings using AutoCAD
  • The willingness to travel to meetings/events and work unsocial hours at weekends and evenings
  • A positive approach to problem solving, decision making and dealing with a wide range of people including senior stakeholders
  • Qualified first aider
  • Construction Management HND/Degree or equivalent-Desirable
  • Relevant H&S qualification-Desirable
