Occupational Health Specialist

We currently have a requirement for an Occupation Health Specialist. In this role you will develop, administer and implement Portview’s Occupational Health Screening & Health Surveillance, you will provide specialist services in sickness absence management and provide advisory services for the team. You will also maintain and develop employee health, in accordance with our health and well-being agenda.

Responsibilities

  • To provide specialist advice to staff and their line managers during periods of ill health and / or sickness absence, along with detailed medical reports summarising recommendations in accordance with best practice and the Equality Act.
  • Assist with the accident investigation program to identify root cause analysis of all incidents and near misses.
  • To effectively conduct fitness for work health assessments in accordance with Procedure
  • Develop and deliver organisation wide Face Fit Testing programme
  • Coordinate eye sights tests, in accordance with DSE Regulations
  • Effectively conduct fitness for work health assessments with new starters, those returning to work after illness or those
  • with ongoing health concerns
  • To provide First Aid treatment, if needed
  • Devise management policy/strategies for employees with pre-existing medical conditions
  • Assist departments with identifying, evaluating, and implementing accommodations and return to work options for workers with restricted duty.
  • Provide appropriate case management to facilitate productivity, assuring appropriate care and assist in return to work
  • To direct all referrals to outside healthcare providers and services, if appropriate facilities are not available in house.
  • Provide clinics for the vaccination of staff appropriate to their role, for example flu jabs.
  • Advise managers of appropriate staff health surveillance programmes in accordance with the legal requirements for Health & Safety at Work, the Health & Safety Executive guidance, and COSHH Standards.
  • To carry out regular health surveillance in the following statutory areas:
  1. Hand arm vibration syndrome
  2. Noise induced hearing loss
  3. Skin disorders
  4. Respiratory Disorders
  5. Occupational Asthma
  6. Respirable crystalline silica (RCS) exposure
  7. Asbestos
  • To keep accurate records on the above and preventative advice.
  • Conduct and assist with the review of COSHH assessments and Safety Data Sheets.
  • Conduct and manage health surveillance programmes for appropriate staff depending on their job role including screening for hearing, vision, respiratory sensitizers, drivers and nightworkers.
  • Deliver presentations / training sessions to promote health & well-being, produce regular health promotion articles for the hub. For example, healthy living, eating, exercise programmes, sun and skin care & musculo-skeletal disorders
  • Assist/provide Training Courses: -Manual handling, Display Screen Equipment (DSE), Hand Arm Vibration, Work Related Upper Arm Disorder (WRULD) Asbestos Awareness & Mental Health

What are we looking for?

The following skills/experience are essential:

  • NMC Registered General Nurse
  • Occupational Health qualification
  • Exerience in health promotion

The following skills/experience are desirable:

  • Knowledge of the construction/fit-out industry
  • HAV’s Tier 3 qualified or be willing to undertake the training.
