An interior vision that combines sartorial elegance with a rock ’n’ roll theme
The John Varvatos store, which is using former Beatle, Ringo Starr, as the face of the brand is the brand’s biggest to date and houses all of the label’s lines over three floors including the sportswear range, Star USA, and his ongoing footwear collaboration with Converse, along with fragrances, eyewear, jewellery and watches.
The ground floor level offers the John Varvatos Collection, while the second floor is devoted to the brand’s tailoring offers and a made-to-measure service.
The 16-week project began as a shell where Portview installed a lift, lift shaft and two staircases with luxury finishes to be added such as a parquet timber floor.
High end furniture and fittings were shipped in from the US to convey the brand’s luxury status, and detailing work was also critical. Portview visited three of John Varvatos New York stores before work began to familiarise the retail concepts for London.
The designer’s vision was to incorporate three different store ideas from his American chain in the single UK outlet which was successfully executed by Portview.
In keeping with the designer brand’s ‘rock’ influences, the majority of interior walls were lined with brick slips and painted different colours to showcase John Varvatos’ edgy fashion attitude, alongside the customised industrial fittings and rock memorabilia such as guitars.
“Working on behalf of US designer John Varvatos alongside Portview Fit-Out has been pretty special for us. We also worked together on Diesel Black Gold, which is a real coup for both of our businesses.”
